Safeguarding Children’s Policy & Procedures

Keeping the children and young people we work with safe is at the heart of everything we do. Our Safeguarding Children’s Policy sets out how everyone at The Children’s Grief Charity, staff, volunteers, trustees and anyone working on our behalf, protects and promotes the welfare of the children, young people and families we support.

We take our responsibilities seriously. Every member of our team is trained to recognise, respond to and share any concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing, and we have clear procedures in place for reporting and acting on those concerns quickly. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead and network of Safeguarding Champions across the organisation make sure this happens consistently, in line with Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) and other relevant UK legislation.

We know that bereavement can leave children and young people particularly vulnerable, and we’re committed to creating spaces that are warm, welcoming and safe for them to grieve in, whatever their circumstances.

If you ever have a concern about a child’s safety, our team will always listen, take it seriously and act on it promptly, working with the right local services where needed.

Safeguarding Adults Policy & Procedures

The Children’s Grief Charity also works alongside adults, whether that’s parents, carers or other family members, and we take our duty to protect adults at risk just as seriously as we do for children.

Our Safeguarding Adults Policy sets out how we recognise and respond to concerns about abuse or neglect, and how we work with adults at risk in a way that’s respectful of their rights, wishes and capacity to make their own decisions. This includes clear procedures for staff and volunteers to follow if they’re worried about someone’s safety, and close working relationships with local authorities and other agencies where needed.

The policy is guided by the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005, including the 2026 update following the UK Supreme Court judgment on deprivation of liberty.

and other relevant legislation, and sits alongside our Safeguarding Children’s Policy as part of our wider commitment to keeping everyone who comes into contact with The Children’s Grief Charity safe.

If you ever have a concern about an adult’s safety, our team will always listen, take it seriously and respond promptly, working with the right local services where needed.
